Nurse Case Manager and President Sandra Best is a Nurse Case Manager and specializes in the field of Accident Benefits. Her practice areas include personal injury involving motor vehicle collisions and slip and fall injuries. She has experience in acquired brain injuries, spinal cord injuries and complex orthopaedic injuries as well as medical private health care.
Sandra Best is a duly qualified Registered Practical Nurse and is registered in the province of Ontario by the College of Nurses. Her registration number is GD13446. Sandra graduated from the Hamilton College of Nurses in 1974. She has 38 years of nursing experience. She spent 18 years at Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital and gained experience in emergency as a trauma nurse. She also managed a fracture clinic alongside five orthopaedic surgeons. She then worked for 4 years in a family physicians clinic that specialized in preventative heart disease and a family practice. Sandra then pursued a career as an Assistant Director for the Hamilton Integrated Living project and for 4 years provided support and care for individuals with spinal cord injuries living independently in a supported housing complex. In 1997 she joined Excel Care and in 2004 became the President of Excel Care.
Sandra is the past Coordinator of the Burlington Ontario Provincial Police Victim Services Volunteer Program and was instrumental in bringing recognition of this volunteer service to the Halton area. She received two Citation Awards from the commissioner of Ontario for her involvement and dedication with the OPP.
Sandra is also a member CSME (Canadian Society of Medical Evaluators) as well as ORA (Ontario Rehab Alliance), SCI (Spinal Cord Injury of Ontario), Ontario Brain Injury Association (OBIA), RPNAO ( Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario), RPN (Ontario College of Registered Practical Nurses), CONA (Canadian Orthopeadic Nurses Association) and she belongs to the Hamilton Medical Legal Society. She has qualified as an expert witness regarding levels of care and working with unregulated health care providers and has published numerous articles.
She is proud to be the owner of Excel Care and previous sponsor of the “Champion of Change Award” held every 2 years for leaders who are recognized in their field. This award is presented at the National Spinal Cord Injury conference. She is also one of the co-founders of Discharge & Beyond, a Neurological Trauma Conference that is currently in its 13th year.
As a Nurse Case Manager, Sandra strives to understand medical complications for her clients and remove the barriers arranging supports and activities based therapies to ensure independence.
